Report: Alleged ‘Ghost Touch’ Issue Affects Certain Apple Watch Series 9 & Ultra 2 Models

The Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 are Apple’s latest smartwatches available to consumers, released alongside the iPhone 15 series in September of last year. While the watches were well-received, recently a few users have expressed concern about a potential “ghost touch” issue affecting some Series 9 and Ultra 2 watches.

As reported by MacRumors, Apple is said to be aware of the issue and may be “investigating” the same, according to a note and release from Apple’s authorized service providers.

“Some customers may report false touches on the Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 screen,” Apple quoted in a memo seen by MacRumors. Users reportedly refer to these touches as “ghost touches.”

In addition, the report adds that Apple users also describe their Apple Watches as “jumpy” and acting strangely, without user input. This can even extend to automatically sharing contacts on the Apple Watch, making it difficult for users to enter the device’s passcode to unlock it.

MacRumors further added that Apple recommends keeping the software up-to-date, suggesting that the issue may be resolved in a future WatchOS update.

It’s currently unclear how soon affected users can expect an update and how widespread the problem really is. In the meantime, however, Apple has reportedly asked repair partners not to address these issues until it has completed its investigation.
